  9. Once recorded, the data in each block cannot be deleted because the blocks containing it references it.

This irreversibility is the main idea behind the Blockchain networks because it is impossible to hack network. It uses cryptography to prevent tampering and theft. Every transaction is recorded, and these records cannot be deleted and altered.

The transaction data includes a hashed version of the outgoing transaction and the recipient’s public key. Each block also contains an immutable list of previous blocks. These lists are called the Merkle tree, which helps verify that each block is authentic.

The Blockchain contains a public address for each user. Each transaction is associated with a specific address, and no action can be taken without the corresponding private key. A user’s public key is associated only with a user’s address. To create what is referred to as a digital signature, the public key is hashed.

This signature is incorporated into the transaction to verify that the public key belongs to that address. The transaction is then broadcast to the network. Each node, or group of computers running the same software, passes the transaction on to the next node.

When the node receives the transaction, it compares it to the previous block. If the transaction is not included in that block, it tosses out of the Blockchain.

If the transaction were included in a previous block, the node would create a new block with the hash of the outgoing transaction, the timestamp, and the transaction data.

Also, if your internet plan doesn’t allow you to go above 100 Mbps, then in practice, a router with such robust specifications won’t do you much good.  What is a splitter?

If we translate the word “splitter” into Portuguese, we will arrive at the term “divisor” and that is precisely its function. A splitter allows you to take the video signal from one source and display it on more than one display. It all depends on how many outputs the splitter has, but this number is variable.

So, suppose your original audio and video source is a PlayStation 4 or an overhead projector. What you want to do is display this image simultaneously on more than one monitor. It could be two, four, eight, it doesn’t matter. The splitter has a set number of outputs – and each output means a new compatible display.

What is a switch?

In terms of sign, what the switch does is the opposite of the splitter. That is, it allows you to connect two audio and video sources to the same display. To understand its logic, let’s take an example.

Imagine a TV that has only one HDMI input. If you try to connect a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One to it, for example, you’ll have to switch back and forth, as there’s no physical space to connect the two. The switch solves this problem. You can connect both consoles to the accessory and the switch to the TV. Just change a switch to switch between signals from one source and another.

Why is there so much confusion between splitter and switch?

Both accessories look very similar and have similar functions. Some brands, for example, have exactly the same models in terms of design, although the purposes are different. Both have similar pricing and functionality, but what changes is that the second model has more outputs – so it allows you to link content from one source on up to four displays.

When it comes to HDMI switches, you can find the models WI290 from Multilaser (3 inputs) and WI346 from Multilaser (5 inputs). In the first case, it is possible to connect up to three devices to the HDMI input of a TV and, in the second, up to five. The first model is more affordable, but in terms of functionality, they are similar.

However, to understand the reason behind key placement, we need to go back in time, even before computers. The standard was created to make life easier for those who used typewriters, and it remains so today.

Christopher Scholes: the man behind the keys

The current key pattern we see on all keyboards is the brainchild of American inventor Christopher Scholes. In the 40’s, when he thought of this invention, there were already typewriters with keyboards. However, they followed a distinct pattern.

One of the most popular models was called the Calligraph. It contained every letter twice, one uppercase and one lowercase. The SHIFT key would only be created later. But after all, why did he decide to arrange the keys following the current layout?

There are many versions to explain this positioning. The most accepted is that the keyboard organizes the letters bringing together the most used pairs in the English language. You can see this if you think of words like “you,” “are” and “they.” Note that the set of keys is always closed.

Another, less widely accepted theory is that he positioned the keys in such a way that the mechanical arms with the letters would not hook as often – in which case, the sets of nearby letters would also make perfect sense. However, this would make typing slower, which at the time was welcomed so that the machines had fewer problems.

 Why does this keyboard layout remain in use today?

The explanation for this is quite simple. Have you ever tried moving the keys around? There are programs that allow you to do this, that is, you can assign each key the letter you want. However, we grew up accustomed to this pattern, passed down from generation to generation, and it is not easy to migrate to another.

Why would you relearn typing on the keyboard with a different placement? In practice, you would have no benefit other than stimulating your brain to do something different. Manufacturers think alike, and for that reason, the QWERTY standard has been retained and even migrated to cell phones.

Despite this, this pattern is not the only one that exists. Other inventors created new keyboard layouts, such as AZERTY, dedicated to French, and HCESAR, dedicated to Portuguese. You can find software on the internet that maps the keys on your current keyboard, turning it into a different layout to see how it works.

However, the big problem with all of them is practicality: practically nobody is willing to give up something that works well and with which we are already used. Relearning where the keys are is definitely not a priority in anyone’s plans.
